Founded as a small laboratory dedicated to the assembly of kits for mosquito nets and furniture items, MDM today is a company
family-run but well known among manufacturers of powder coatings and in the field of painting aluminum profiles for architecture. Based in Grottaglie, a small town in the heart of Puglia and famous all over the world for its ceramic workshops, MDM is one of the leading Italian companies in the sector.
“The type of service that our small company initially offered was purely the assembly of mounting kits for aluminum mosquito nets,” explains Giuseppe Stallo, one of the owners of MDM.
“Our job consisted of assembling the components, applying the manufacturer’s adhesive and packing them. The whole process was completely manual. We decided to make our first investment in technology and purchased a laser marker to replace the unsightly adhesives with engraving. Due to the increase in the cost of the service, albeit of a few cents per piece, customers initially did not like the idea of replacing the old identification stickers of the brand and product with a more modern personalized marking.
However, that experience helped us to further evolve our business. An important local company asked us to create a prototype for a new color sample made up of laminations, each with a different code. We presented ourselves to the customer with a sample consisting of laminations with the laser-engraved code. We proposed to the customer to perform, in addition to laser engraving the code, also the mechanical cutting of the painted sheets to obtain more precise results and avoid the unsightly burning of the edges obtained with the method used up to then. The customer liked the proposal very much and confirmed the order ”.
“For a company like ours, it meant giving us an imprint of a true artisan company and not just a small family workshop” continues Giuseppe Stallo.
“All the four most important companies in that sector, based in Southern Italy, became our customers and we began to expand our range of action, not only in the local market but also in Central and Northern Italy, where there is still today a strong concentration of paint and varnish manufacturers. Today, MDM’s specialization is therefore the creation of color swatches and folders for the aluminum sector, from the powder producer, to the third-party painter up to the end user such as, for example, manufacturers of frames, doors and windows, mosquito nets. We boast a client package of about 500 companies distributed in Italy and Europe. Our quality is recognized by all these companies to the point that we contribute to the creation of the most prestigious catalogs in the painting sector, proposing color charts with all the effects and colors that today powder coatings allow to create, thus helping our customers to propose , in turn, quality samples for the final consumer “.
“Each of the bundles we produce is personalized with front / back marking, with innovative covers made of PP, indestructible and customizable with the graphics chosen by the customer in any quantity” explains Stallo.
“Our strength is that the entire production process, from cutting to drilling the sheet metal, from printing to folding the cover up to the assembly of the sample, is carried out thanks to a range of non-standard equipment but completely designed and built at our in-house, tailor-made for our needs. ”
“A short-term investment is planned by next January, which involves the installation of a painting system that will integrate the entire production workflow. This plant will avoid queues and waits caused by current suppliers and will improve even more, if anything were needed, the quality of the finished product itself through the direct control of this delicate phase of processing ”concludes Giuseppe Stallo.
“MDM creates samples where the customer shows the effect of his paint or varnish: it is unthinkable to propose a sample sheet with an imperfect finish”.
“To satisfy every customer’s need at the highest quality that can be offered with the available resources …” this is our mission.
